Tupac Amaru Shakur, born Lesane Parish Crooks, June 16, 1971 in Manhattan, a borough of New York City. In 1988 he relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area eventually moving to Los Angeles in 1993.
He is considered by many to be one of the most influential rappers of all time and become a central figure in West Coast hip hop, gang wars. On September 13th 1996 aged just 25 he was the victim of a drive by shooting. Shakur is one of the best-selling music artists of all time having sold over 75 million records worldwide. The colours used in this work pay homage to the tragic lives lost in the battle between the bloods and the crips.
